In the Fall 2001, the
Occupational Ergonomics Concentration was initiated within the Masters
of Public Health (MPH) Program at the Uniformed Services University of
the Health Sciences (USUHS). Its mission is to provide specialty
training for officers in all service branches in the critical areas of
injury prevention and occupational ergonomics, and focuses on training
students to address the public health concerns raised by workplace
injuries and associated costs. In addition to the core courses and
requirements for the MPH degree, the specialty track offers coursework
in Occupational Ergonomics, Human Factors Engineering, Safety
Engineering, Work Analysis Methods and Injury Prevention. |

are injured each year due to the improper use of rucksacks. These
injuries are preventable if soldiers follow certain guidelines when
packing and fitting their rucksacks. |
The purpose of the ergonomics rotation in occupational therapy (OT) is to
provide an overview of ergonomics design principles and occupational risk
factors for musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). |
